Simply because our Lord has ordered us
“As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, you have no part of them in the least. Their affair is with Allah; He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did.”(6:159)
“The believers are but a single Brotherhood. So make peace and reconciliation between your two contending brothers, and observe your duty to God, that you may receive mercy.” (49:10-11)
“Surely, this brotherhood of yours is a single brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher. Therefore serve me and no other. But they broke their religion into sects among them; yet they will all return to Us.” (21:92-93)
-
and we want to love our Lord, indeed
“Almighty Allah says: “Say, (O Muhammad, to mankind): If ye love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you” (Aal `Imran: 52).
-
Therfore we need to follow what our Prophet has ordered us to do
-

“O Allaah! Testify. Let those who are present inform those who are absent, because the person receiving the message might understand it better than the one who originally heard it. Do not become disbelievers after my death, and start killing each other” Ibn ‘Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, said, ‘I swear by The One In Whose hands my soul is! His advice to his entire nation was, “do not become disbelievers after my death, and start killing each other” (Bukhaari).

unfortunately today what we see is

-some so called muslims declare others Kafir and even wajib-ul-qatal,

-some so called scholars hurt feelings of other fellow muslims by using foul langauage against their religious personalities

These factors do not let Shia and Sunni Muslims unite,

so Lets analyse the first issue, decalring others kafirs and wajib-ul-qatl,

the first question that arises is who is a muslim?

” someone who believes in One Allah and the Holy Prophet peace be upon him as His last messanger”

So as far as some one beleives in the kalma he cannot be declared as kafir

This is exactly what a Salafi Scholar “Molana Ishaq” says while defending a muslim sect

furthermore, is a Kafir in Islam wajib-ul-Qatal?

“Forsure not, otherwise the Holy Prophet would have ordered to kill all the non-muslims after Fatah-e-Makkah (victory of Makkah) but he did not do anything like that, intead he had forgiven the murders of his own family members” So there must be no violance against any group, even kafirs,

but unfortunately we see today some extremists Sunni (so called) groups have called shias Kafirs and declared them wajib-ul-qatal, for some unknown reasons, as Ahmed – Deedat (Dr Zakir Naik’s teacher) states

” But we say to them “no you are different you are Shia.” This attitude is a sickness of the devil. He wants to divide us. Can you imagine we Sunnis are 90% of the Muslim world and the ten percent who are Shias want to be partners and brothers with you in faith and the 90% are terrified? I cant understand why should you the 90% be so terrified. They should be the ones terrified. “

and renowned Sunni scholar Dr Israr Ahmed qutoes the following ayat and then describes it

Surah Aale Imran Ayat #64 Translation

Say (O Muhammad ): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.”

Dr. Israr Ahmed’s words regarding above Ayat

“Just Imagine Allah (swt) in the holy Quran is talking about the unity between muslims, jews and christans. It is not only possible to be united with other religions (Ale Kitab) but in fact Allah is ordering us to be united with them, so why can’t we muslims be united after all we believe in ONE God and the prophecy of Muhammad (p.b.u.h). This Ayat shows Quran’s Direction and what Quran Wants us to Provoke”

and on the second issue, understnading there were some Shia scholars (so called) who were adding fuel to the fire to use foul language to the personalities that Sunnis respect

the Supereme Lead of Iran, Ayatullah Khamenie gave the fatwa which was well received by the prominent sunni scholars

Chancellor of al-Azhar University of Islamic sciences welcomed Fatwa (verdict) issued by the World Shia Leader, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei, which bans any insult to the companions of Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.) as well as his wives

Such insults have always been a source of controversy and dispute between Shia and Sunni Muslims and barred them from forging a robust unity against their common enemies, unlike a multitude of commonalities between the two sects.
